Minto Municipal Priorities
The Town of Minto consistently hears two messages from residents:
1. We want more or better services, (such as leaf drop off and street sweeping); and,
2. Do not raise taxes or fees.
Since we charge taxes and fees in order to pay for services, we want to delve deeper. The purpose of this survey is to help the Town get a qualified understanding of residents’ priorities for service improvements and appetite for accompanying dedicated revenue increases.
Today’s estimated costs were determined by reviewing recent purchases and comparable costs from other municipalities.
Willingness to pay more for a given item will allow for more of a service or higher quality or allow for market price changes when a large project goes to tender.
For example, it may cost $3,500 for a one-time snow removal and the higher amounts will allow this task to be performed more frequently. A basic indoor walking track would cost a certain amount, while better material and a wider track would incur a higher cost.
The responses we receive will be an input into the future budget processes and Town’s asset management strategy, noting that Town Council is responsible for making all final decisions.

Prioritizing
Capital Investments
In 2018, the Town of Minto invested $6.7 million in local infrastructure
projects, (such as the reconstruction of Elora St. in Clifford and
refurbishment of Harriston swimming pool). Residents bring many additional
project suggestions forward, which, if adopted, would increase Town property
taxes and fees. Looking at project costs per household, what we want to know is,
what are each of the fifteen enhancements worth to you? At what price-point
would you support implementing these upgrades? It’s time to choose!
